Gratefulness

Growing in Grace was on Thursday October 11 and about 40 seniors came out to enjoy a Turkey dinner, a hymn sing lead by Melanie Effa, and a message from Senior Pastor Lou Leventhal.   I would like to highlight a few points from his devotional on being thankful. A friend of his Paul Johnson once said in a message that he believed the surest sign of a healthy heart, both spiritually and emotionally is a constant attitude of gratitude. Some reasons people do not live a life of gratitude: They are self-sufficient: "I can do it." They are lazy: "I don't have the time." They are ungrateful:   "I don't have enough and deserved more." They are self-centered: "I deserve it." They are proud: "I don't want to admit my neediness." Thanksgiving is not a holiday, it is a way of life. Focusing on what you do not have will stop you from being grateful. Scipture: 2 Timothy 3:1-5 You should know this,...

Senior Gathering

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.   James 5:16 It is amazing how fast summer was gone and now we are into the fall full force.   Last week, a group of seniors about 35 gathered in the gym for lunch.   Betty Collins, with her friends Joe and Deb prepared a nice lunch for us to enjoy.   About five staff members also joined us. It was a time to give thanks. A senior from our community handed me a list to pray for the pastors on staff.   What a great idea! I asked the group to considering being in prayer for the pastors at Emmanuel and for each other,   since we are all ministers in Christ.   Following is a list from the October edition 1999, of Decision Magazine.   I encourage each of us to be in prayer.

A New Beginning

Another ministry year is unfolding before us, the leaves are changing colors and there is a chill in the air. I really enjoy the autumn in Saskatchewan. I would like to welcome all seniors to take part in upcoming events, that are located on the column to the right. An upcoming event happening this week I would like to highlight: Over the next two year, the teaching times on Sunday morning will focus on walking through the whole Bible. To launch this theme, the Spiritual Life Conference which is on September 21 and 22 is titled Read the Bible for Life. George Guthrie Biblical Professor and author of Read the Bible for Life will be the conference speaker. George will also be speaking on Sunday at all three congregations.  For more information on this conference contact Pastor Brendon Gibson.  I look forward to meeting with as many seniors this fall and upcoming year, during events and over coffee. Blessings of peace, Robin Sloboda

Ministry Moments

Well, the senior's gathering was a great start to a full year in ministry. The group was small, and it was good to see everyone who came. The devotional was titled, "Surround Sound Your Soul." Quote: Music is God's best gift to man; the only art of heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to heaven. --Walter Savage Lander I read a short devotional from 70 ways to beat 70: Keys to a Longer, Healthier Life, by David B. Biebel. The first paragraph: "Music has the power to lift our spirits; to touch those places in all of us that are hurting; to make us laugh, cry, love more and hate less. It's hard to stay sad and depressed when music is playing. And singing along, even if you can't carry a tune in a bucket, surrounds your soul with sound more personally." As we grow older new circumstances come into our life that can knock our world, music has a way of calming the storms withing and also music has a way of bringing healing to our s...
