Update on the Senior's Fall Conference

The conference this year went well, seventy people attended. Doreen's catering provided us with two types of soup, and homemade sandwiches and cookies. It was good to hear Bob McLeod and Gordon Brown speak forth God's message. The location for the 2010 Seniors' conference was at Rock of Ages Lutheran Church. Thank you to the staff and all the volunteers' from both the Rock of Ages Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church for making this years conference possible. Blessings of love to all who attended. Thanks Gordon Brown Thanks Vangie Whitbread from Living Light Books Thanks Tom and Brenda Sibley for leading us in worship Psalm 23 A psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; you...

On Saturday night September 11, over 40 people attended the Fall Gathering at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Albertine Spieser who turned 95 this year, provided background music throughout the evening. Ten Goals for Senior Adults

Last week I stumbled upon this goal list for senior adults, one I thought was worth pondering over. 1. Admit you are a senior adult. In many cultures those over fifty are highly esteemed. Look for ways to honor those who are older than you, setting precedence for the younger generation. 2. Assess your past and prepare for the future. Consider how God has provided spiritually for you and determine now to begin or continue your relationship with Him. 3. Avail yourself of education regarding health issues. Many communities and medical centers provide free screenings and classes to keep you aware of symptoms and treatment before they become serious. 4. Accompany older senior adults to activities and doctors' visits. Your help is invaluable to them, and you will learn from their experiences how to enhance your own life as a senior. 5. Allow yourself to set new priorities and commitments. Determine what is important to you and approach these ideals with a renewed co...

Events

The Third Annual Prairie Harvest Fire Seniors' Fall Conference is on September 28, at Rock of Ages Church. If you are interested in helping out at this event please give me a call. If you are interested in going with a group to see this play at the Barn Playhouse the young senior group are selling tickets.  This would be a great event to invite your friends to join us. I am interested in attending this play at Bethany Bible College , if you are interested give me a call and perhaps we could buy a table.  The tickets are approximately $18.00 a person. During the week of September 13-17 I will be working on police checks for those interested in being part of the visitation ministry team. If you are interested in serving in this ministry please contact me. I will be away in Vancouver the week of September 20 - 24, to being my journey into MDiv. If you have a prayer request or need assistance, please phone Jan at the church office and she will direct your call.

Blessing One Another To bless means to say good things. We have to bless one another constantly. Parents need to bless their children, children their parents, husbands their wives, wives their husbands, friends their friends. In our society, so full of curses, we must fill each place we enter with our blessings. We forget so quickly that we are God's beloved children and allow the many curses of our world to darken our hearts. Therefore we have to be reminded of our belovedness and remind others of theirs. Whether the blessing is given in words or with gestures, in a solemn or an informal way, our lives need to be blessed lives.

I will try this Again!

My desire and goal is to keep a record of events that happen within the senior community at Emmanuel. It seems I have not been very consistent since January, for this I do apologize. Thus the reason for my title, "I will try this again!"  Look forward to new posts and consistency...hopefully. Love you all.... Robin
