A New Beginning

Another ministry year is unfolding before us, the leaves are changing colors and there is a chill in the air. I really enjoy the autumn in Saskatchewan. I would like to welcome all seniors to take part in upcoming events, that are located on the column to the right. An upcoming event happening this week I would like to highlight: Over the next two year, the teaching times on Sunday morning will focus on walking through the whole Bible. To launch this theme, the Spiritual Life Conference which is on September 21 and 22 is titled Read the Bible for Life. George Guthrie Biblical Professor and author of Read the Bible for Life will be the conference speaker. George will also be speaking on Sunday at all three congregations.  For more information on this conference contact Pastor Brendon Gibson.  I look forward to meeting with as many seniors this fall and upcoming year, during events and over coffee. Blessings of peace, Robin Sloboda

Ministry Moments

Well, the senior's gathering was a great start to a full year in ministry. The group was small, and it was good to see everyone who came. The devotional was titled, "Surround Sound Your Soul." Quote: Music is God's best gift to man; the only art of heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to heaven. --Walter Savage Lander I read a short devotional from 70 ways to beat 70: Keys to a Longer, Healthier Life, by David B. Biebel. The first paragraph: "Music has the power to lift our spirits; to touch those places in all of us that are hurting; to make us laugh, cry, love more and hate less. It's hard to stay sad and depressed when music is playing. And singing along, even if you can't carry a tune in a bucket, surrounds your soul with sound more personally." As we grow older new circumstances come into our life that can knock our world, music has a way of calming the storms withing and also music has a way of bringing healing to our s...

A New Start

Fall is certainly upon us and so is a new start to this blog and the new start to another year in seniors ministry at Emmanuel.  One of the main ways I will be communicating in this next ministry year will be through this blog.  As a church community we will be moving slowly away from using inserts to using others means to communicate up-coming events.  Over the next few weeks and month's check out this blog for short devotionals and up-dates on up-coming events.  I am excited on what God is going to do within our senior community at Emmanuel this next year.  Blessings and love to all, Pastor Robin Sloboda

How do I Leave a Comment--Good Question

I was asked today to explain how to add a comment to blogger.  I know if you have a Google Account it is really easy to add a comment.  A Google Account will offer you many options and is worth signing up for one.  I personally use the Google reader and calendar often.  However...back to our conversation on how to add a comment.  When you are on the blog page, you will see at the end of post the word comment.  Click on that then a pop-up box will appear with the following inside: Robin (Google Account) – Sign Out Email follow-up comments to lenajoy1@gmail.com OpenID  OpenID LiveJournal WordPress TypePad AIM Name/URL Name URL Anonymous If you click email follow-up whatever is posted after you leave a comment will be sent to your email box. If you click one of the three blogger will direct you, and if you are signed into Google it will be very simple. Try posting a comment under anonymous but in the post you can ...

Update on Ministry

Fall this year came quickly, perhaps it is because summer seemed to be slow in coming and the hot days never really arrived.  Growing in Grace had the annual Thanksgiving Banquet this week. Betty Collins and her team prepared a delicious meal, turkey, potatoes, vegetables, cranberries, stuffing, and pumpkin pie for dessert.  Thank you Betty and team for the wonderful meal. Audrey Spate once again created an comfortable feeling in the fellowship hall with all of her creativity and decorations.  Thank you Audrey for the little touches of fall color and the homemade jam you generously gave each of us who attended. Thank you to Huge, June, Susan, and Glen who helped with the clean-up after the banquet. The next Growing in Grace banquet will be in December.  More details will be in the bulletin closer to Christmas. I was good to see many people attend, we had over 50 people come out.  I enjoy gatherings like this one where I can meet many of you an...
