The Fall

Hi Everyone,

Over the last few weekends, Murray and I have been driving out into the country to enjoy these days of Autumn. The colors are majestic and glorious.  Yesterday, we drove to Waskasui to have a cinnamon bun from Archer’s Bakery.  Sadly, they were sold out!  The drive still was good for our soul’s.

We stopped at a river and the sign had a great quote to ponder about the river. Here is what is written:  "The Spruce river speaks of time: A time of Glaciers dying, and a river being born; A time of winter trails and freight wagons; A time for you to ponder, to watch wildness flow."

Murray wrote the devotional thought for today. A quick update on the surgeries, I will know more after Tuesday, I am meeting with a specialist and will know the date for surgery.  I really do not like the waiting period, but this is a time to trust God fully.

The Fall

Hello all, (this is my version of Fall, hope you like it.)

“He lets me rest in green meadows:

he leads me beside peaceful streams.”

Psalms 23:2

So, for years I have always looked forward to the days of fall, a season that I find very refreshing.  Over forty years now I have been driving south of the city down a dirt road, commonly referred to as the old Pike Lake Road.

This time of year the colors are fantastic and I find that the drive is very peaceful, in my 20’s my parents had a cabin out that way and it was always peaceful and quiet to go out in late fall and just absorb the scenery around me, my 30s and 40’s were busy with raising a family, jobs and living life large never having or making time for the fall and all that came with it.  That slowly started to change in my 50’s and my wife and I would start to drive out again to Pike Lake to enjoy the scenery, but also something new was on the land in these years, Cranes, Sandhill Cranes and what excitement they brought when you saw them in the field jumping around

and looking really awkward on land, at first we only saw a few cranes and then as the years past more and more came to this area.  This year was no exception the Cranes were plentiful and the colors wonderful.

This gives me the feeling of its time to slow down, wind down and take time for refection of what the last six months have brought.  God does not want us to have such a hurried life, he wants us to remember what is important Psalms 23:3 says He renews my strength.  He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

I enjoy the fact that fall comes around and every year I can drive out into the country and see the wonderful colors in the trees and the fields, and feel the peace that comes with the end of a busy season, that I can enjoy watching the Cranes as they jump around on the grain fields and give me joy in seeing how funny they are, I am thankful that God  reminds me to slow down  every fall and remember what is important for we are way to fast and to busy to slow ourselves down so HE provides a season that is just gentleness.

God, I thank you for the vivid colors of autumn, I thank you for the Cranes in the fields that bring me joy in how they hop around.  I praise you and feel your strength renew me during this time, continue to remind us every year at this time that we need to stop, pause and reflect on all the goodness you bring. In His name we pray. Amen.

Thanks, Murray for sharing your fall thought with us today. The photo above was taken at Pike Lake. I am not sure how the video of the sand cranes will come through on email but if you go to the blog you can watch the clip. If you would like to email Murray with an encouraging thought his email is: murraysloboda@gmail.com

The video is a clip of the sand cranes at Pike Lake.

Blessings and Stay Safe,

Robin

Beautiful pictures. The cinnamon buns must be spectacular to drive to
Waskesiu to enjoy them. I realize fall is the most beautiful season, but the
downside is winter follows. We never seem to get to enjoy the fall colors for
very long, but driving out in the country is a sure way to really enjoy the
season. We haven't connected for awhile Robin. I know you are dealing with
a lot of uncertainty, but just know that I pray for you and your family and
also for your medical team. Just keep me in the loop so I can help with meals, etc. We had family pictures taken this week-end and I am so excited to see the results. We are all doing well. Laurel

Murray thank you for the beautiful thoughts and visuals. The photos are stunning and the video of the cranes surprised me. I didn't know there were so many! I always thought they were an endangered species. Amazing! Now I want to see them for myself.

Robin, I continue to pray for you. Of course we know that God is in control but I pray for him to guide the doctors' hands and eyes and to work all this out to show His glory while giving you healing and strength. Take care of yourself in the mean time.

Good-Bye to the Horizon Students

Over the last six years, I have had the privilege to be a mentor and ministry supervisor for students from Horizon College and Seminary in Saskatoon.   It is an honor to walk alongside younger people and offer ministry opportunities.   God has brought amazing people into my life who have also encouraged me and helped me grow in my faith. Today, I finished up the administration side of being a mentor for Leah and Erin, the horizon students who were part of my life this year.    It is interesting to be part of triad-cohort, which is three people encouraging and walking alongside each other.   Very inspiring.   Both women have the heart to visit with senior adults, care for their well-being, and grow their own faith.   I do hope you had a chance to meet these young women. Hopefully, God will open an opportunity next year for a student or two to come and be part of the ministry at EBC.     A question to ponder:   Have you spoken w...

Remembrance Day

Five days ago, a special friend sent the bouquet above for my 60 th birthday. Thank you to all who took the time to show your love to my family and celebrate my birthday.   I am blessed to have family, friends and community around to care for and love me.   For the last seven weeks, I have received at least two cards a day. Thank you so much.   The bouquet is unique not just for the love it reminds me of but also for the great gift of love given to all of us. As I mentioned last week, this blog has a theme going that is on remembering.   Tomorrow is Remembrance Day, and my friend Roger offered to share a post he wrote for us to remember.   Roger is a veteran and helped lead the service with me last year at the Bentley. When I started my journey being on staff in 2008, at Emmanuel, I became part of a team of people who lead the Bentley Chapel service each week.   I also helped with leading the Remembrance Day service each year, a well-attende...

The Gathering of Willow Trees

Last week, I decided to gather my Willow Tree figurines together.   I have about twelve of them. I had several in my office at the church, and others scattered around my home.   Each one arrived for a special event or situation that has taken place in my life. It was nice to remember how they came into my life and why. It is good to take time to reflect.   In the following display, I have placed soar, freedom, and hope.   Mark and Cindy, who are with the Heartland Regional Office part of the Canadian Baptist of Western Canada (CBWC), sent the flowers.   The Staff and the Board of EBC also sent their prayers and love through a lovely bouquet.   I enjoy having beauty in my home, especially when the item reminds me that I am part of a broader community holding me up in prayer.   Thank you to everyone for the creative ways you have expressed your love and care for my family during this crazy beautiful season. Soar arrived during ordination as a rem...
